U.S. Senator Mark Warner

U.S. Senator Mark Warner was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2008. He serves as Vice Chairman of the Select Committee on Intelligence and as a member of the Senate Finance, Banking, Budget, and Rules Committees.

During his time in the Senate, Sen. Warner has established himself as a bipartisan leader who works across the aisle to accomplish real solutions for Virginians. He has served as a key author and negotiator of several pieces of critical legislation aimed at rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure, improving cybersecurity, restoring domestic manufacturing, addressing the challenges and opportunities around AI, protecting national security, and investing in underserved and underbanked communities.

Sen. Warner has been recognized as a national leader in fighting for families, hardworking Virginians, and our brave servicemembers. From protecting the highest levels of national security through his work leading the Senate Intelligence Committee, to fighting to expand broadband to every corner of the Commonwealth, Sen. Warner has been a tireless advocate for a safer, stronger, more prosperous Virginia.

From 2002 to 2006, he served as Governor of Virginia. When he left office in 2006, Virginia was ranked as the best state for business, the best-managed state, and the best state in which to receive a public education. The first in his family to graduate from college, Sen. Warner spent 20 years as a successful technology and business leader in Virginia before entering public office. An early investor in the cellular telephone business, he co-founded the company that became Nextel and invested in hundreds of start-up technology companies that created tens of thousands of jobs. Sen. Warner and his wife Lisa Collis live in Alexandria, Virginia, and have three daughters and two grandchildren.

Former Virginia State Senator Tommy Norment

A lifelong advocate for the Greater Williamsburg region and the Commonwealth, Tommy Norment has dedicated over three decades to public service, economic development, and higher education.

A graduate of James Blair High School, Tommy earned his B.A. from the Virginia Military Institute and his Juris Doctor from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary. His career in public office began in 1987 on the James City County Board of Supervisors, leading to his election to the Senate of Virginia, where he served for 32 years. Elected by his peers to serve as both Majority Leader and Minority Leader, he also co-chaired the powerful Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee.

Throughout his legislative tenure, Senator Norment was a force for the Historic Triangle, consistently directing and delivering vital state funding toward local priorities:

  • Higher Education: As Chair of the Capital Outlay Subcommittee, he secured hundreds of millions in state funding for capital improvements, faculty support, and research initiatives at public universities, serving as a primary champion for the College of William & Mary and VMI.
  • Tourism & Regional Economy: A steadfast champion for Greater Williamsburg’s hospitality and historic assets, he authored landmark legislation that created dedicated, recurring local funding streams to market regional tourism and support local infrastructure, including the new Williamsburg Indoor Sports Complex and the York County/Poquoson new Law Enforcement Building. He also chaired the 2007 Jamestown Commemoration, co-chaired the 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution, and served on the Board of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for eleven years.
  • Community Safety & Governance: He championed Virginia’s right-to-work laws, promoted state fiscal responsibility, and spearheaded legislation to enhance school safety and protect Virginia families.

Professionally, Tommy is an attorney and the Commissioner of Accounts for James City County. He remains deeply invested in civic leadership, serving on the William & Mary Board of Visitors, as Chairman of the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Board of Directors, and as a member of the Hampton Roads Corporate Board of Directors of TowneBank and Chairman of the Williamsburg Board of TowneBank.
